Indiana Department of Education Approves NWEA for Use Under the Formative Assessment Grant
NWEA’s Map® Growth™, MAP® Suite™ and MAP® Suite™ for Early Learners are all approved interim assessments to help Indiana schools use data to drive instruction aligned to state standards.
Portland, Ore. – June 23, 2020 – NWEA, the not-for-profit provider of assessment solutions, announced today that the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) approved three of NWEA’s assessments for use in Indiana schools in the 2020-21 school year. This is the fifth year in a row that NWEA has been approved by the IDOE even though the approved list of assessment providers continues to shrink. A key element of the approval criteria is for assessment providers to show alignment to Indiana’s academic standards and provide projections of performance on statewide assessments. More than 50% of Indiana schools use NWEA’s assessment solutions and just over 1.2 million Indiana students took a MAP Growth test last year.
About MAP® Growth™
MAP® Growth™ is NWEA’s flagship computer-adaptive assessment. It measures what students know and what they are ready to learn next. By dynamically adjusting to each student’s performance, MAP® Growth™ creates a personalized assessment experience that accurately measures performance – whether a student performs on, above or below grade level. Timely, easy-to-use reports help educators differentiated instruction to meet the academic needs of each student. MAP® Growth™ is also available in Spanish.
About MAP® Suite™ and MAP Suite for Early Learners
MAP® Suite™ is an assessment system that at its core includes MAP Growth. Depending on grade level, it may include MAP® Skills™, which drills down to the specific skill gaps each student needs to master, or our innovative, reading assessment called MAP® Reading Fluency™, which efficiently measures oral reading fluency, literal comprehension and foundational skills for both English and Spanish speakers. MAP® Reading Fluency™ can assess an entire class in just 20 minutes freeing up valuable instructional time. Because of automatic scoring, educators have results right away that helps them understand what’s needed to advance each student’s reading skills. The innovative assessment tool is powered by LanguaMetrics™ and includes EduSpeak® speech recognition software under license from SRI International®.
