MAP Accelerator is an innovative education tool informed by MAP Growth data and powered by Khan Academy
Portland, Ore. – May 10, 2021 – NWEA, a not-for-profit, research-based provider of assessment solutions and learning services, announced today that MAP Accelerator was named a 2021 SIIA CODiE Award finalist in the Best Foundational Mathematics Instructional Solution category. Acknowledged as the premier awards program for the software and information industries for over 35 years, the SIIA CODiE Awards are produced by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software, education, media, financial information and digital content industries. MAP Accelerator was honored as one of 152 finalists across the 42 education technology categories.
Co-developed by NWEA and Khan Academy, MAP Accelerator is a personalized learning tool that allows districts and schools to differentiate math instruction for students in grades 3-8, whether students are on, above, or below grade level. MAP Accelerator reduces the manual work of differentiation for teachers by automatically integrating Clever rosters, MAP® Growth™ scores, and Common Core-aligned Khan Academy content to generate learning pathways—complete with lessons, instructional videos, and practice problems—for every student. The tool was designed to keep teachers in the driver’s seat and is part of a familiar tool with math teachers – Khan Academy.
“We (NWEA and Khan Academy) knew we were building a tool that would be truly applicable to educators, that helps them understand where their students are at and what action steps to take next – something critical now more than ever as we see the pandemic impact math more specifically,” said Chris Minnich, CEO of NWEA. “To be recognized for this effort by the CODiE judges who are all current math teachers is truly an honor.”
MAP Accelerator is in the Best Foundational Mathematics Instructional Solution category, which recognizes the best instructional solutions that offer math curriculum and content for students in grades PreK – 8. One noted feature of all the finalists is that the solutions provide for deep and personalized learning experiences, support standards alignment and reflect current curriculum best practices.
“The CODiE Awards recognize the most exciting and transformative products in Ed Tech,” said Jeff Joseph, SIIA President. “This year, these leaders helped our nation respond to the historic pandemic, enabling learners, educators, administrators and parents to remain connected to each other and to critical educational resources via an array of innovative services and platforms. Congratulations to this year’s finalists for demonstrating the vitality, resilience and importance of this important industry.”
The SIIA CODiE Awards are the industry’s only peer-recognized awards program. Educators and administrators serve as judges and conduct the first-round review of all education nominees. Their scores determine the SIIA CODiE Award finalists which account for 80% of the overall score. SIIA members then vote between May 10 and May 21 on the finalist products and the scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Education Technology category winners will be announced during an online winner announcement celebration on June 23, 2021.
